Angela Rayner is a British politician serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government since 2024. A Labour MP for Ashton-under-Lyne since 2015 and Deputy Leader of the Labour Party since 2020, she rose from a working-class background, having left school at 16 while pregnant, later becoming a care worker and trade union official. Known for her straight-talking style, Rayner aligns with Labour’s soft left and is outspoken on issues like social justice, law and order, and transgender rights. She has held key positions in the Labour Party, including Shadow Secretary of State for Education, and was instrumental in the party’s resurgence. Nicknamed "Grangela" for becoming a grandmother at 37, she is known for her resilience and relatability, earning recognition such as Politician of the Year by The Spectator in 2024.
