​David Lammy is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tottenham since 2000. Born on 19 July 1972 in London to Guyanese parents, he studied law at SOAS University of London and became the first black Briton to attend Harvard Law School, earning a Master of Laws degree in 1997. Lammy held various ministerial roles under Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, including Minister of State for Culture and Minister of State for Higher Education. After Labour's defeat in 2010, he served in opposition, notably as Shadow Foreign Secretary from 2021. Following Labour's victory in the 2024 general election, Lammy was appointed Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs on 5 July 2024. Beyond politics, he has authored books addressing social issues and has been recognized among the most influential Black Britons
