Emmanuel Macron, born on 21 December 1977 in Amiens, France, is a centrist French politician who has served as President of France and Co-Prince of Andorra since 14 May 2017. Cocaine or Tissue? Mystery on the Kyiv-Bound Train
- Wednesday, 14 May 2025
On Friday, Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, and UK Labour leader Keir Starmer met aboard a train traveling from Poland to Ukraine, presenting a unified diplomatic front ahead of their scheduled visit to Kyiv on Saturday. Their presence comes amid growing international calls for Russia to agree to a ceasefire and enter negotiations. A video from inside the train has drawn attention online—not for its political symbolism, but due to a moment where a small white object is briefly visible on the table before Macron quickly moves it out of view. Some on social media have speculated that the object resembled a small bag of cocaine, especially as Merz is seen holding a small spoon. However, such speculation is unsupported. The object could plausibly be something mundane, such as a crumpled tissue or a piece of packaging, which in the context of a moving train and under artificial lighting, might easily be misinterpreted. Macron’s quick movement may reflect nothing more than a desire to clear the table during filming. Without concrete evidence, assigning sinister meaning risks distorting the real focus of the meeting: a coordinated effort to support Ukraine and press for peace.
Naughty Nemo: Macron’s Dog Pees During Ministerial Meeting
- Sunday, 22 October 2017
A light-hearted moment at the Elysée Palace was captured on video when French President Emmanuel Macron’s dog, Nemo, urinated on a fireplace during a meeting with junior ministers. The footage, recorded by French TV station TF1, shows the black Labrador-Griffon mix relieving himself in the background as Macron engages in discussion. Junior ecology minister Brune Poirson reacts with surprise, prompting laughter, while Macron jokingly calls Nemo’s action “quite exceptional” and blames the ministers for triggering “unusual behaviour” in his dog. Adopted in August from an animal rescue centre for €250, Nemo continues the French presidential tradition of owning a "first dog." However, presidential pets have a history of mischief. Nicolas Sarkozy’s dogs reportedly damaged valuable furniture at the palace, requiring costly repairs, while Jacques Chirac’s Maltese, Sumo, became aggressive after leaving the Elysée, possibly distressed by the loss of its large garden. Though these incidents may seem minor, they offer a glimpse into the personal side of presidential life and provide comic relief in otherwise formal settings. Nemo’s brief interruption adds to the long-standing tradition of presidential pets occasionally stealing the spotlight and serves as a reminder that even in places of power, unexpected—and amusing—moments can happen.
