Lindsay Hoyle
Speaker of the House of Commons
Sir Lindsay Hoyle has been the Speaker of the House of Commons since November 2019 and has served as the Labour MP for Chorley since 1997. Throughout his tenure, he has prioritized impartiality and the safety of MPs, especially in light of rising threats against politicians. In July 2024, he voiced serious concerns over the increasing levels of abuse directed at MPs, describing it as the worst he has ever seen. As a result, he took steps to limit debates on sensitive issues, such as the Gaza conflict, in an effort to protect Members of Parliament from further hostility.
