Cristina Balan, a former Tesla engineer, was allegedly threatened with deportation of her entire engineering staff by Tesla lawyers after she tried to report a major safety issue with the Model S's braking system in 2014. She claimed that instead of addressing the issue with Elon Musk directly, Tesla's lawyers threatened to deport all members of her team, who were waiting for green card applications at the time, if she did not comply.
