​Jeremy Hunt is a senior British Conservative politician who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from October 2022 to July 2024, and has been the Member of Parliament for Godalming and Ash (formerly South West Surrey) since 2005. Born on 1 November 1966 in Kennington, London, Hunt was educated at Charterhouse School and later at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he earned a first-class degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. Before entering politics, he co-founded the educational publishing company Hotcourses and spent time teaching English in Japan. Hunt has held several key cabinet positions, including Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport (2010–2012), Health and Social Care (2012–2018), and Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (2018–2019). As Chancellor, he focused on fiscal responsibility, presenting budgets in 2023 and 2024, and implementing measures aimed at reducing inflation. Hunt Seeks Fresh Advice on BSkyB Bid Amid Phone Hacking Scandal

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has sought fresh advice from regulators Ofcom and the Office of Fair Trading on News Corp's takeover bid for BSkyB, following the phone hacking scandal surrounding News of the World. Hunt wrote to the regulators asking if the recent events affected their previous assessment of the bid, and also asked about the credibility and sustainability of undertakings offered by News Corporation.
