Rayner Under Fire as Bin Strike Crisis Deepens and Union Powers Grow

Angela Rayner faced criticism over her plan to grant more powers to unions, despite failing to stand up to striking bin workers in Birmingham. The strikes, which have been ongoing since March 11, have been prolonged by union members who rejected a council proposal to end the crisis. The situation has led Tory leader Kemi Badenoch to warn that unions now run the country, and Rayner's plan for a workers' rights law will hand even more powers to them. Unite general secretary Sharon Graham also warned of the potential for the strike to spread to other areas if councils continue to make low-paid workers pay the cost of their decisions.
