Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said it's unlikely Britain will join the euro during his lifetime. He noted that if member states had followed the rules, the euro crisis could have been avoided. Although he refused to rule out British entry at some point, he conceded that joining now is "off the horizon". Former Lib Dem leader Lord Ashdown predicts a "core euro" with Germany and other countries will be established. Business Secretary Vince Cable said it doesn't make sense to talk of joining the eurozone currently, but the project could still be a success.
