Sadiq Khan
Mayor of London
Sadiq Khan is the current Mayor of London, having made history by winning a third term in 2024. First elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2021, the Labour politician has focused on key issues like housing, transport, and air quality. His most controversial policy has been the expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which supporters praise for improving air quality while critics argue it unfairly penalizes drivers. Khan has also worked on increasing affordable housing, tackling crime, and maintaining London’s global status post-Brexit.

- Friday, 17 January 2025
Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan has been accused of “stonewalling” questions about whether London has a problem with so-called “grooming gangs”.
His Tory rival Susan Hall made nine successive attempts at Mayor’s Question Time to ask Sir Sadiq whether there were gangs operating, or previously active, in the capital. But Sir Sadiq repeatedly asked Ms Hall, the former Tory mayoral candidate, to clarify what she meant by grooming gangs, claiming: “I’m not clear what she means.”
