The English Defence League (EDL) protest in east London resulted in 60 arrests, with 16 people detained during the demonstration and 44 others held on suspicion of violent disorder after a coach carrying EDL supporters broke down. The protest went ahead despite a ban on marches in the area, and police estimated 1,000 EDL supporters and 1,500 counter-protesters attended. The EDL protesters were led to Tower Bridge by police to disperse, where they remained for about 40 minutes before being allowed to leave.
