Volodymyr Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the President of Ukraine, serving since May 20, 2019. Before entering politics, he was a comedian, actor, and producer, best known for starring in the TV series Servant of the People, where he played a schoolteacher who unexpectedly becomes president—a role that foreshadowed his real-life political career. Running on an anti-corruption and pro-reform platform, Zelenskyy won the presidency in a landslide victory against incumbent Petro Poroshenko. His leadership has been defined by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. Zelenskyy has gained international recognition for his resilience, rallying global support for Ukraine while refusing to flee Kyiv, famously declaring, "I need ammunition, not a ride." His presidency has strengthened Ukraine’s ties with the West, and he continues to advocate for Ukraine’s sovereignty, European integration, and military aid to defend against Russian aggression.

US President Donald Trump has called Volodymyr Zelenskyy a dictator and repeated false claims that Ukraine started the war.
In a lengthy post shared on Truth Social and X Trump said Zelenskyy had refused to hold elections in Ukraine and accused him of being a "dictator without elections". The US president went on to say: "Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a country left." He also touted his administration's recent negotiations with Vladimir Putin saying: "We are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only 'TRUMP', and the Trump Administration, can do."
