Volodymyr Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the President of Ukraine, serving since May 20, 2019. Before entering politics, he was a comedian, actor, and producer, best known for starring in the TV series Servant of the People, where he played a schoolteacher who unexpectedly becomes president—a role that foreshadowed his real-life political career. Running on an anti-corruption and pro-reform platform, Zelenskyy won the presidency in a landslide victory against incumbent Petro Poroshenko. His leadership has been defined by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. Zelenskyy has gained international recognition for his resilience, rallying global support for Ukraine while refusing to flee Kyiv, famously declaring, "I need ammunition, not a ride." His presidency has strengthened Ukraine’s ties with the West, and he continues to advocate for Ukraine’s sovereignty, European integration, and military aid to defend against Russian aggression.

Vance stated that it's not productive for Zelensky to make such claims, given that the US is currently supporting Ukraine.

Zelensky Urges Trump: See War's Human Cost Before Pursuing Deal with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited Donald Trump to visit Ukraine ahead of any deal with Russia to end the war, saying "Please, before any kind of decisions, come to see people, civilians, warriors, hospitals, churches, children destroyed or dead." This comes after a Russian missile attack on Sumy killed 34 people and injured 117 others. The US has been pursuing an end to the war through negotiation under Trump, but it remains to be seen if he will accept Zelensky's invitation.

Rare Night of Peace: Ukraine Reports No Mass Drone Strikes After Trump's Russia Warning

Ukraine reported no mass drone strikes against civilians for the first time in months on the night following Donald Trump’s statement that he was "pi**ed off" with Russian President Putin and threatened to impose sanctions. This rare absence of drone attacks came after Ukraine shot down two cruise missiles launched by Russia overnight, but officials did report limited damage from drone attacks in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Trump Warns Putin: Back Ukraine Ceasefire or Face 'Devastating' Financial Consequences

President Donald Trump threatened "devastating" consequences for Russia if Vladimir Putin does not agree to a 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine. Trump said there are financial measures that could be taken that would be bad for Russia, but he doesn't want to do so in order to achieve peace. This marks a change from his previous positive comments about Putin and Russia.
