President of Ukraine
Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the President of Ukraine, serving since May 20, 2019. Before entering politics, he was a comedian, actor, and producer, best known for starring in the TV series Servant of the People, where he played a schoolteacher who unexpectedly becomes president—a role that foreshadowed his real-life political career. Running on an anti-corruption and pro-reform platform, Zelenskyy won the presidency in a landslide victory against incumbent Petro Poroshenko. His leadership has been defined by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022. Zelenskyy has gained international recognition for his resilience, rallying global support for Ukraine while refusing to flee Kyiv, famously declaring, "I need ammunition, not a ride." His presidency has strengthened Ukraine’s ties with the West, and he continues to advocate for Ukraine’s sovereignty, European integration, and military aid to defend against Russian aggression.
