Sinn Féin Councillor Suspended for Two Months Over Drunk-Driving Conviction

Sinn Féin councillor Cathal King was suspended for two months by the Northern Ireland Local Government Commissioner for Standards after being found guilty of being drunk in charge of a car. King, who was convicted last year and fined £200 with 10 penalty points, referred himself to the standards watchdog after the incident in July 2024. The commissioner found that King had brought his position as a councillor into disrepute and that he had cooperated fully with the adjudication process.
