Border Force Supervisor Accused of Smuggling $1.3m Cocaine into Australia in Luxury Item Bribery Scheme

Australian Border Force supervisor Rita Gargiulo, 50, and Cosmo Commisso, 67, are accused of conspiring to import 6.9kg of cocaine into Australia worth $1.3 million. Gargiulo allegedly accepted luxury items as bribes from Commisso in exchange for "the safe passage" of the parcel, using her position to search cargo and provide information on how the shipment could avoid customs detection. Both were arrested and charged with bribery and smuggling offences, including aiding and abetting the importation of border-controlled drugs, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
