Hong Kong Post Suspends US Services Amid Trade War

Hong Kong has suspended its postal services to the United States amid the ongoing trade war with President Donald Trump. The Hongkong Post will no longer accept air mail packages bound for the US starting from April 27 and residents should expect to pay "exorbitant and unreasonable fees" if they still wish to deal with the US. An official government statement accused the US of being "unreasonable, bullying, and imposing tariffs abusively," stating that Hongkong Post will not collect any tariffs on behalf of the US.

According to Social Care Minister Maree Todd, the £19,000 pay rise for Cabinet members and junior ministers will not cost the public a penny. The First Minister partially ended the 16-year pay freeze, increasing salaries for junior ministers to £100,575 and Cabinet secretaries to £116,125. However, John Swinney has announced he will not accept his £19,126 increase, instead following the voluntary pay freeze in place since 2009, which has raised around £2.2 million for the public purse.

Kirstie McGrath and Niamh Mulreany, two Irish mothers from Dublin, were accused of breaking Covid-19 quarantine laws after returning from a trip to Dubai for cosmetic surgery. They refused to stay at a designated hotel for the required 14-day quarantine despite pre-booking their rooms. Charged with breaching the Health (Amendment) Act, they faced a fine and imprisonment. After challenging the law's constitutionality in court, their criminal case was ultimately dismissed due to the judge ruling that it was not made clear to them that violating quarantine rules could result in criminal punishment.

A large group of travellers has set up caravans on an enormous football pitch in Bicester, Oxfordshire, just a mile away from the popular shopping destination Bicester Village. The illegal encampment has brought noise and disruption to the area, with quad bikes racing across the field and litter strewn about. Locals are too afraid to walk their dogs due to alleged human waste and bonfires being started on the pitch, which is now home to nearly 20 vehicles despite efforts by Bicester Town Council to prevent access.
