Andrew Mitchell is a veteran Conservative politician who has served as the MP for Sutton Coldfield since 2001, previously representing Gedling from 1987 to 1997. Educated at Rugby School and Cambridge, he had a career in the military and investment banking before entering politics. He has held key government roles, including Secretary of State for International Development (2010–2012) and Minister of State for Development and Africa (2022–2024), before being named Deputy Foreign Secretary in 2024. He is also known for the 2012 "Plebgate" scandal, in which he was accused of calling police officers "plebs" at Downing Street, leading to his resignation as Chief Whip. Though he denied the remark, the controversy sparked a high-profile legal battle. Mitchell remains committed to international development and local constituency issues. He is married with two daughters.
