Lies, Power, and the Fall from Grace

Political scandals are like reality TV but with higher stakes and fewer good-looking people. One day, a politician is kissing babies at a rally, and the next, they’re explaining why they "accidentally" wired taxpayer money to their secret llama farm in Peru. There’s always the classic “I have no recollection of that event,” which translates to “I was definitely there, but let’s all pretend I wasn’t.” And let’s not forget the heartfelt, totally-not-scripted apology, where they stand next to their long-suffering spouse, who looks like they’d rather be anywhere else—maybe even at that llama farm.

  • Monday, 24 February 2025

Suspended Labour MP Mike Amesbury has been jailed for 10 weeks after pleading guilty to assaulting 45-year-old Paul Fellows in his Cheshire constituency, with video footage capturing the incident. The attack, which took place in the early hours of October 26 in Frodsham, led to Amesbury being removed from the Labour Party. He was denied bail pending an appeal, ordered to pay £200 in compensation to the victim, along with £85 in costs and a £154 surcharge. The conviction has triggered the possibility of a recall petition that could force a by-election in his Runcorn and Helsby constituency.
