Democracy: Now with More Leaflets!
Elections are that magical time when every candidate suddenly remembers your name, your dog’s name, and pretends to care deeply about the pothole outside your nan’s house. Leaflets multiply in your letterbox like rabbits on energy drinks, all featuring people who have never worn a hi-vis jacket suddenly posing in one like they’ve just filled in a thousand potholes personally. There’s always that one guy who runs as an independent with a manifesto that’s 80% about bringing back milk deliveries and banning cyclists. And no matter who wins, the bins still get collected late and the local duck pond remains mysteriously over budget.

- Sunday, 20 April 2025
The village of Guilden Sutton, located in Cheshire, England, is set to elect its fourth MP in less than four years due to recent boundary changes. The village was previously part of the City of Chester constituency but was shifted to the Runcorn and Helsby constituency as a result of the 2020 boundary review. This unusual situation has led to concerns about consistency and the impact on local democracy, with some residents expressing frustration at being represented by different MPs so frequently.
Aontú Submits Bill to Grant Voting Rights in Presidential Elections to Irish Citizens in Northern Ireland
- Saturday, 19 April 2025
Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín has submitted a bill to allow Irish citizens living in Northern Ireland to vote in presidential elections in the Republic of Ireland. The party claims that over one million Irish people living in Northern Ireland are currently not eligible to vote, despite being Irish citizens and holding an Irish passport. Tóibín argues that it is the responsibility of the Irish government and Dáil to grant this right, rather than the London government or Stormont Executive. He believes that this change would allow the full Irish nation to vote as one for the first time since 1918.

An analysis suggests there are more than 80 Labour MPs with a majority smaller than the number of disabled people in their seats who might see their benefits cut, including several high-profile ministers such as Wes Streeting and Shabana Mahmood. The data is being shared among MPs as Sir Keir faces a mounting revolt over welfare cuts.
Bannon Floats Trump's Third Term Bid: 'He'll Be Elected Again' in 2028
- Sunday, 13 April 2025

Steve Bannon told Bill Maher that he has a team working on finding a Constitutional way for Donald Trump to run in and win the 2028 presidential election, securing a third term. Trump himself had previously discussed the possibility of running again when speaking with NBC's Meet the Press. Bannon claimed that President Trump will be elected again in 2028 and will remain president until January 20th, 2029. Maher pointed out that this would violate the 22nd Amendment, which prohibits a person from being elected to the office of the President more than twice.
