Dominic Cummings Barnard Castle incident

  • Monday, 25 May 2020

The Dominic Cummings Barnard Castle incident refers to a controversial trip that Dominic Cummings, then senior advisor to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, made during the height of the COVID-19 lockdown in May 2020. At the time, the UK government had imposed strict restrictions on movement to limit the spread of the virus, which included advice for people to stay at home unless absolutely necessary. Cummings was based in London but was reported to have traveled to Barnard Castle, a small town in County Durham, around 260 miles away from his home. The trip quickly became a national scandal when it was revealed in late May.
