Political Downfalls: A Spectator Sport
Watching politicians get fired—sorry, “resign to spend more time with family”—is like watching a reality show finale. One minute, they’re making grand speeches about their “dedication to the people,” and the next, they’re awkwardly packing up their office plants while pretending it was totally their idea to leave. Some go down with a defiant rant, others vanish like they were never there, and a few reappear six months later as “political analysts” on TV. It’s a cycle as predictable as election promises—big talk, big fall, and a suspiciously cushy job waiting at a lobbying firm.
Met Police Officer Fired Over Anti-Israel Posts on Instagram
- Sunday, 13 April 2025
A Metropolitan Police officer, Detective Constable Ibrahim Khan, has been fired without notice after sharing an image on Instagram of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu morphing into Adolf Hitler. The post, made in October 2023, also included additional text suggesting that the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel's border were a fabrication and expressing dislike for Israel. A gross misconduct panel found Khan in breach of professional standards due to his deliberate and sustained conduct over several days, which drew explicit comparisons between contemporary Israeli policy and the Nazis.
Scientists Swap Lab Coats for Toilet Brushes as Park Staff Shortages Reach Crisis Point

Following the mass firings of national park employees under Donald Trump’s administration, scientists are being forced to leave their research duties to clean campground bathrooms. The custodial staff shortage at Yosemite National Park, among others, has resulted in a crisis, with scientists, rangers, IT workers, and even leadership team members taking on bathroom cleaning duty. One employee described the assignment as "outrageous," citing understaffing caused by the hiring freeze due to Trump's administration.
Reform UK Candidate Suspended Over Jimmy Savile Tweets Praising 'Working Class Hero'
- Friday, 04 April 2025

Stephen Hartley, a Reform UK candidate in the Banbury Hadrwick ward, has been suspended from the party after tweeting support for Jimmy Savile, a prolific rapist and sexual predator. The tweet, posted on X in 2022, referred to Savile as a "working class hero" and expressed doubt about allegations against him. It is believed that Savile preyed on approximately 500 victims, aged five to 75 years old, across various settings including hospitals, schools, children's homes, and BBC premises. Following the discovery of Hartley's posts, Reform UK withdrew its support for his candidacy, but he will still appear on Oxfordshire County Council's ballot paper as the candidate list was published before the suspension.
Trump Fires Top NSA Official Amid Wider Purge of Security Officials

The Trump administration has fired General Timothy Haugh, head of the National Security Agency and US Cyber Command, amid reports of a wider purge of top security officials. The removals come after a meeting between President Donald Trump and far-right activist Laura Loomer, who reportedly urged Trump to fire specific employees suspected of being disloyal. Trump denied that Loomer played a role in the firings, but several other officials at the White House National Security Council were also terminated.
