The head of the Electoral Commission, Vijay Rangarajan, has urged ministers to tighten election law and restrict foreign donations, particularly from "mega-donors" like Elon Musk. He cited a lack of trust in political finance and noted that current laws passed in 2000 are insufficient. Rangarajan suggested restricting company donations to the previous two years' worth of UK profits and expressed concerns that such large donations could create the perception that politicians are not acting in voters' best interests, but rather on behalf of donors.
