Pride and Pronouns
The LGBTQ community encompassing Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer individuals continues to be at the forefront of major cultural and political discussions around the world. While progress such as marriage equality and anti-discrimination laws has been achieved in many countries, recent years have seen a rise in political backlash, especially around transgender rights, healthcare access, and education policies. In the United States, the UK, and parts of Europe, debates over gender identity, participation in sports, and inclusive curricula have become highly charged issues. Pride events and advocacy efforts remain vital, both in celebrating hard-won rights and in pushing back against new waves of legislation and rhetoric aimed at curbing LGBTQ freedoms. Despite these challenges, the LGBTQ movement remains resilient, continuing to advocate for equality, visibility, and the right to live authentically and safely.
Drag Queens Sashay into Easter with 'Hunky Jesus' Contest and Anti-Trump Skits
- Monday, 21 April 2025
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a drag queen group, hosted their "No Easter without the T" event at Dolores Park in San Francisco to honor transgender individuals. The event featured activities for children such as an Easter egg hunt and games, but the main attraction was the "Hunky Jesus" contest, which drew a crowd of around 10,000 people. Contestants, including some dressed as Donald Trump, mocked him in drag performances, with one individual even mock-humping a Trump doll. The winner, "Cowboy Carter Jesus", waved a gay pride flag from atop a glittery buffalo.
