Billionaire Wins £2m Stamp Duty Refund After Decade-Long Court Battle with HMRC

Christian Candy has won a £2 million refund from HMRC after a lengthy court battle over stamp duty on his £68 million Georgian mansion. The billionaire property developer purchased the mansion with his brother Nick and paid stamp duty before gifting it to his brother, who was then told he must pay stamp duty again. After paying nearly £2 million too much in tax, Candy received a refund of £1.92 million plus £270,000 in lost interest from HMRC.
