During the first lap of the Silverstone race on July 3 last year, climate activists entered the tarmac after a crash triggered a red flag. A court heard that their actions posed a serious risk to Formula One drivers and race marshals. Bethany Mogie, David Baldwin, Alasdair Gibson, Emily Brocklebank, Louis McKechnie, and Joshua Smith were later tried for conspiracy to cause public nuisance and found guilty at Northampton Crown Court. Police released footage of the dramatic moment they invaded the track, with one protester heard shouting, "This is a climate emergency." The court also revealed that five of them had attempted to glue themselves to the live race track.
