Politicians and technology go together like dial-up internet and Zoom calls. Every time a new app drops, half of them think it’s a sandwich and the other half want to ban it just to be safe. Their latest crusade? Banning encryption — because apparently, privacy is suspicious now. You'd think they'd at least Google what encryption is before trying to outlaw it, but then again, half of them still think "the cloud" is something you fly through to get to a committee hearing. Honestly, if they had their way, we’d all be sending emails by carrier pigeon, but with a government-approved tracking chip strapped to its leg — for “national security,” of course.

UK Judge Rules Apple Data Privacy Row Must Be Heard in Open Court

A judge has ruled that a legal dispute between the UK government and Apple over data privacy cannot be held in secret. The Home Office wanted access to information secured by Apple's Advanced Data Protection (ADP) system, citing powers given to it under the Investigatory Powers Act. Apple had previously pulled ADP from the UK due to concerns about creating a "backdoor" into the system that could be exploited by hackers and criminals. The government's request was rejected by the tribunal, which cited the principle of open justice and highlighted extensive media reporting of the row.

iPhone Prices Set to Soar: Trump Tariffs Could Make Apple's Latest Models Cost $3,500 Each

According to Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives, Apple's iPhone prices may skyrocket to $3,500 due to President Trump’s tariffs on Chinese goods. The increase would make iPhones more expensive for US consumers, making them less affordable. This is because almost all iPhones are assembled in China and the 54% tariff would significantly drive up costs.

Nintendo Pauses Switch 2 Preorders Amid Trump Tariffs

Nintendo has paused the preorder of its Switch 2 console in the US due to President Trump’s tariffs, originally set to start on April 9, 2025. The company is assessing the potential impact and evolving market conditions before updating the timing. The launch date remains unchanged at June 5, 2025, with the system priced at $449.99; however, Nintendo will have to absorb previously unknown costs to maintain this price.
