Conflict between Russia and Ukraine

The Ukraine war refers to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, tensions between the two countries date back to 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and supported separatist movements in eastern Ukraine including Donetsk and Luhansk.

Putin's Top Negotiator Heads to White House Amid Ukraine Talks: Trump Threatens Retaliation

Kirill Dmitriev, a top Russian official and economic envoy for President Vladimir Putin, will meet with US special envoy Steve Witkoff at the White House amid ongoing talks to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting comes after President Trump threatened to hit Russia's economy if a deal isn't reached soon, including imposing a 50% tariff on countries buying Russian oil. Dmitriev is one of the most senior Russian officials to visit the US since the invasion started in 2022 and will meet with Witkoff at the White House, possibly on Wednesday.
