The Ukraine war refers to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. However, tensions between the two countries date back to 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and supported separatist movements in eastern Ukraine including Donetsk and Luhansk.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has engaged in discussions regarding Ukraine's plight by speaking to US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following an acrimonious meeting between Trumps and the Ukrainians. He expressed his 'unwavering support for Ukraine', while aiming towards a sustainable peace based on sovereignty as he hosts a European leaders' summit in response to their conflict with Russia. Reactions have been partisan, although Starmer highlights importance of diplomacy and urges British leadership by inviting Zelenskyy to address Parliament amidst the backdrop of tension between Trump administration’s aggressive rhetoric towards Ukraine which has provoked US allies' support for Kyiv.
