Fire Brigades Union Leader Urges Labour MPs to Rebel Against Benefit Cuts
- Wednesday, 09 April 2025
The leader of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU), Steve Wright, is urging Labour MPs to vote against the government's proposed benefit cuts, which aim to save £5bn a year by 2030. The plans include tightening eligibility for Personal Independence Payment and changes to universal credit, including cutting the health-related element for under-22s and reducing the health top-up payment from April 2026. Wright believes the move will lead to the normalization of the cost of living crisis for many and should be rejected.
