Lawmakers, Lawbreakers
When politicians get caught committing crimes, it's like watching a toddler deny eating chocolate with their entire face smeared in it. There they are, standing in front of a podium, sweat glistening under the lights, swearing they “had no idea” that embezzling millions and hiding it in a fake charity called “Save the Puppies Foundation” was wrong. Their excuse? “I was hacked,” “It’s a smear campaign,” or the classic, “This is all news to me,” as if their signature didn’t appear on every shady document like a kid writing their name on the wall with permanent marker. And yet, despite overwhelming evidence, they strut back into office like nothing happened—because in politics, apparently, crime pays... and also gets you a book deal and a Netflix docuseries.
Pub Chain Felled Ancient Oak Tree: £1million Legal Bill Imposed After Outrage Spreads
- Thursday, 17 April 2025
The owner of Toby Carvery apologized for felling an ancient oak tree in Whitewebbs Park, Enfield, which was beloved by the local community. The pub chain's contractors cut down the tree on April 3 after consulting with employed tree experts who deemed it dying and a risk to the public. However, Enfield Council conducted an inspection in December 2024 and found the tree to be healthy and posed no risk. As a result, the council plans to pursue legal action against Mitchells & Butlers for felling the £1million-valued tree, which has sparked outrage among residents. The CEO of Mitchells & Butlers apologized for the upset caused, stating that one of their team members acted in good faith based on expert advice.
