Reading, Writing, and Red Tape
Politicians love to talk about education like they invented books whilst standing proudly at podiums, declaring that “our children are the future,” right before they cut the school budget to buy more flags. They pass laws demanding students score higher on standardized tests, even though half of them think "Pi" is just a dessert and "critical thinking" is a liberal conspiracy. They promise to "listen to teachers," then ignore every actual teacher in a 50-mile radius and consult their cousin Dave who once substitute-taught gym in '98. At this rate, kids will graduate knowing how to recite campaign slogans but still wondering who this "Pythagoras" guy was and why he loved triangles so much.
UCU FE Lecturers Vote Overwhelmingly for Strike Action in Pay Dispute with Northern Ireland Colleges
- Tuesday, 01 April 2025
Further education lecturers in Northern Ireland, represented by the University and College Union (UCU), have voted overwhelmingly in favor of strike action and action short of strike over pay. The vote was sparked by the UCU's claim that college employers had reneged on a pay deal and Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald had reduced the baseline budget for FE colleges by 7.9% and told them to find £18m of efficiency savings.
