Reading, Writing, and Red Tape

Politicians love to talk about education like they invented books whilst standing proudly at podiums, declaring that “our children are the future,” right before they cut the school budget to buy more flags. They pass laws demanding students score higher on standardized tests, even though half of them think "Pi" is just a dessert and "critical thinking" is a liberal conspiracy. They promise to "listen to teachers," then ignore every actual teacher in a 50-mile radius and consult their cousin Dave who once substitute-taught gym in '98. At this rate, kids will graduate knowing how to recite campaign slogans but still wondering who this "Pythagoras" guy was and why he loved triangles so much.

Powys Councillor Rejects Resignation Call Amid Estyn Criticism

Powys councillor Pete Roberts, responsible for education, will not resign despite an Estyn report highly criticizing the council's education services. Opposition councillors called on him to step down at a meeting, but he refused, citing confidence from the council leader and cabinet. The report recommended addressing school site security issues, strengthening leadership and support for schools, and implementing a sustainable model for 16-19 education. In response, the council formed an accelerated improvement board to develop an action plan and implement Estyn's recommendations, with Chief Emma Palmer chairing the board.
