Politics vs. the Planet: Who’s Winning?
Politicians often talk about protecting the environment, but their actions don’t always match their words. While some push for real climate policies, others support industries that contribute to pollution and deforestation. They may attend climate summits and launch green initiatives, but real change depends on whether they prioritize sustainability over short-term economic gains. Public pressure plays a key role in holding them accountable and ensuring that environmental policies lead to meaningful action.
Dutch Parliament Votes to Ban New Year's Fireworks...But Not Yet
- Tuesday, 08 April 2025
The Dutch parliament has voted to ban buying and setting off fireworks, but only after next New Year's Eve. The ban was approved by a majority of MPs, but with a delay due to concerns about compensation claims from fireworks suppliers. The decision comes after years of chaos on New Year's Eve, including two deaths and 1,162 injuries last year, as well as property damage and rioting. Many Dutch cities have already banned fireworks or created firework-free zones, but the ban has been largely ignored in the past.
