Government Launches Quango Audit to Cut Spending and Boost Ministerial Control

The UK Cabinet Office Minister Pat McFadden has asked government departments to justify the existence of hundreds of public bodies, known as quangos, that are not directly controlled by ministers. The review aims to cut spending and give ministers more decision-making powers, with some quangos potentially being closed or merged. The government will consider four key principles in the review, including ministerial oversight of key policy areas and government efficiency.
