Fire Brigades Union Leader Urges Labour MPs to Rebel Against Benefit Cuts

The leader of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU), Steve Wright, is urging Labour MPs to vote against the government's proposed benefit cuts, which aim to save £5bn a year by 2030. The plans include tightening eligibility for Personal Independence Payment and changes to universal credit, including cutting the health-related element for under-22s and reducing the health top-up payment from April 2026. Wright believes the move will lead to the normalization of the cost of living crisis for many and should be rejected.

Welsh First Minister Criticizes UK Cabinet Colleague Over Benefits Cuts

Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan criticized Welsh Secretary Jo Stevens, saying "I speak for myself" after Stevens said Morgan backed the Chancellor's benefits cuts. Morgan lamented the reforms and expressed concern that people were suffering and worried due to the lack of impact assessment provided by the UK government. She declined to condemn the cuts outright during a session in the Senedd, but promised to present Welsh voices on welfare reform "plainly and unambiguously".
