Democracy: Now with More Leaflets!

Elections are that magical time when every candidate suddenly remembers your name, your dog’s name, and pretends to care deeply about the pothole outside your nan’s house. Leaflets multiply in your letterbox like rabbits on energy drinks, all featuring people who have never worn a hi-vis jacket suddenly posing in one like they’ve just filled in a thousand potholes personally. There’s always that one guy who runs as an independent with a manifesto that’s 80% about bringing back milk deliveries and banning cyclists. And no matter who wins, the bins still get collected late and the local duck pond remains mysteriously over budget.

The combined authority will receive £13.4m a year from the government for 30 years, and the result of the election is expected to be announced on May 2nd at East Riding Leisure Centre Haltemprice.

The Privileges and Procedures Committee (P&P) in Jersey is proposing automatic voter registration for all eligible voters, which could increase participation in elections. The current system requires filling out a paper form and sending it to their parish, but this change would simplify the process. If approved, the proposal would also remove public access to the electoral register.
